WAGAMAMA HIGH Spec Review

 

WAGAMAMA High Spec released in 2017 was developed by madosoft and published by Sekai Project. The game follows the MC Narumi Kouki, a student in his second year of high school and secretly he's also a young up and coming manga writer. At the time I am writing this I have only gone through one of the love interests but I am almost done with the second. In total there are 4 different paths.

Like many other Steam games the game itself is sold without the H-Scenes or nude content. However, you can obtain the 18+ DLC Patch through Denpasoft, which I highly recommend. The patch adds not only the H-Scenes but also adds some options in the Configure Screen. This includes the "ejaculation" option and the "Nudity Patch" which shows all the females in their birthday suits instead of clothing.

Narumi is an aspiring Manga writer that was scouted at an early age by an agency due to his writings on an online fan fiction style writing site. Upon getting scouted he was given a serialized section in a magazine which he has been producing for some time. As the writer he turns in his manuscripts on a regular bases to meet deadlines for publication. His work is then sent to a illustrator which draws his works out for publication.

Like him, the illustrator uses a online fake name so their identity can't be found out. Through a series of events however, Narumi ends up meeting his illustrator in the most unlikely of ways, and even more surprising is who the illustrator is.

Kaoruko is the President of the Student Council and as Narumi she is also the up and coming illustrator under the pen name 'Mr. Deer'. Narumi and Kaoruko both have the same editor and manager even though they never met until now they had been working together for months if not a year or so. 

Kaoruko is a bit of an airhead and lacks some commonsense, she's been very sheltered and tends to show this through her actions and words. Despite that she is exceptional smart and intelligent as well as has an ever growing drawing ability. She is an honor student and holds a great deal of respect in the eyes of the student body.

Her family is extremely rich and tend to be very Conservative in their moral values, because of that when she came out as liking Manga, Anime, and drawing such she was shunned by her family. During a dark part of her life she found the writings of a writer by the pen name 'Potato Salad' (aka Narumi), and fell in love with his writings. She started drawing more and more in the hopes of one day getting to work with this writer and as luck would have it that is exactly what ends up happening.

Kaoruko is one of the girls that is a love interests and has her own path. She's also the one that I went with first.

Ashe is the Student Council Vice-President and best friends with Kaoruko. Her first impression of Narumi wasn't the best and for the longest time she can't really say she likes Narumi because she feels that he has somehow managed to get into the Student Council because he has some dirt on Kaoruko.

As time goes by they do eventually start to become friends and she is as Narumi and Toa describe her, 'the stereotypical Tsundere'. Ashe isn't very open with her emotions and tends to be hard to read because of it. She is extremely smart and has a good deal of people that admire her because of her can do attitude and her ability to work hard. She is also a member of the Music Department and has a following from there as well.

Ashe is the daughter of an accomplished pianist mother and a accomplished violinist father. However, as her mother became world renown for her music career her father eventually gave up on the violin in order to be her mothers manager. At an early age Ashe was pushed to learn the piano. She worked hard and dedicated her childhood into studying it to make her mother proud. However, an event happened that made Ashe give up on the piano. Her father told her to try to become a composer instead because he felt she had talent there.

Because of the event she tends to be down on herself when she feels she can't do something or if she thinks others around her have talents and she doesn't. She can be reserved at times but she can also be the opposite if need be and very assertive.

Ashe is one of the other girls that you can end up in a relationship with and is the one I am currently working on. 

Mihiro is the best friend of Narumi's younger sister and a friend of Narumi's for a while. She also ends up becoming a member of the Student Council due to her grades. Mihiro is the daughter of parents that own and operate their own restaurant and as such is very good at cooking. She is also the 'animal whisperer' as she seems to have the ability to attract animals and communicate with them...though that is subjective at best. 

Mihiro is out going and caring, she's very influential in Toa's (Narumi's sister) life and tends to keep her in check and keep her from becoming a NEET and Otaku of sorts. Mihiro also has fun at Narumi's expense by teasing him on a regular bases about them getting together or having sexual relations. Toa of course joins in on this and it gives Narumi a rough time, especially if others are around. Mihiro also knows that Narumi is an author.

I haven't ran through her route yet but she is one of the girls that you can end up with so I will give her her dues when I go through her path and get her story.

Toa is Narumi's blood sister, she is also an Otaku and tends not to want to do anything other than play video games, watch anime and play on her computer. She is extremely smart and at a young age created her own OS. She is a programmer by trade and while it doesn't really say how (or at least not that I have seen yet) its because of her that they are able to live the way they do. 

Toa is very much anti social, she doesn't do well out in public or out in a crowd, she tends to only really talk with people online. The only other people she spends time with would be her brother and Mihiro. That is at least until she is asked to join the Student Council due to her helping them out with a problem with one of their computers. She takes a liking to the other girls quickly and becomes fast friends with them which surprises Narumi at the time.

Toa is also a romantic path, that said I do not know the specs on this one yet...though I am interested as most VN's revolve around a brother and sister relationship being they are only related by marriage. However this one openly states that they are blood brother and sister. While its not something that isn't done it isn't seen as often as it is a niche taboo even in Japanese culture. That said...I have no problem with it when it comes to VN's so I am really wanting to see how this turns out.

Narumi goes through trials and tribulations with each of the girls and with his career but despite that they make Narumi's character to be very easy going and able to transition well. I so far enjoy this VN due to its comedy between the characters and supporting characters. I can say that they really wanted to highlight comedy more so here than romance, not that there isn't any romance just that it wasn't the primary focus which is not bad at all.

Many Visual Novels focus on romance or path choosing which is great, I enjoy having the ability to play through the game multiple times as it makes you feel like you get your money's worth out of it, plus its just a fun experience, but I also enjoy a good comedy which I think sometimes is overlooked. The music and artwork are both very well done and the H-Scenes are well drawn.

I highly recommend this game to anyone that is into comedy and romcom style Visual Novels.
