The Fruit of Grisaia

The Fruit of Grisaia

The Fruit of Grisaia is an in-depth story-driven choice based Visual Novel that at the time of this post I have approximately 36hrs in and I have only finished 1 route.
I am currently playing through and hopefully will be done with another route later tonight but I can not be sure of that. So the hope is that by tomorrow I may be ready to move to a 3rd route (love interest).

Because I am still going through each of the girl's paths and because each one is so long (which isn't always a problem) I have decided to do a primary Preview and then to do a 'Review' of each path and love interest within the Visual Novel.

This story takes place in modern-day Japan, you play as Kazami Yuuji, just called Yuuji. He is a husk, a shell, a human being that has lost all sense of worth in a world where he has been trained and tuned to be a weapon for the Government. After the loss of his older sister, his family fell apart. His mother and father would die later leaving him alone. As a ward of the Government, he was initiated into a special program that turned children into honed weapons, expert snipers, subterfuge, spec ops, and other actions.

Technically however he actually doesn't work for the Government, he's 'owned' by a large multinational corporation that works with the Government and other bodies nationally and internationally providing soldiers like Yuuji for hire. As time has gone by Yuuji, moving through the ranks has obtained the status of "Active Reserve" meaning he is no longer fully active and can have a life outside the company. However, as Active Reserve he may get a call that he's needed to perform a job.

Now able to have a life outside of the corporation he has elected to try and have a somewhat normal life by going to a regular high school. However, due to his situation, such a thing wouldn't really work in a normal school, now with his attitude and deep-seated scars and training. So he is sent to Mihama Academy. Mihama Academy is a newly built and established private high school. How private? Well, it houses 5 girls and the Principle of the school. Teachers are brought in and then sent home. And now that Yuuji is brought in that makes a total of 6 students.

You find out as time goes by that the school is a special school not just for private students of wealth and famous families, but each person is 'special' in the fact that each has a sordid amount of issues that effectively make it where they can not function or attended normal schools.

As is common with these types of Visual Novels each girl is classified as a 'path' or 'love interest'. In this particular Visual Novel each girl has both a 'Good Ending' and a 'Bad Ending' and honestly, if the first path I went down and got the Good Ending with the first girl is any indication then I am not sure how I could ever really bring myself to do the bad ones. The game focuses heavily on the interactions between the girls themselves and Yuuji, with other characters being added into the mix to create a very compelling story that has its share of ups and downs as well as humorous moments.

This game is classified as a Mature Visual Novel but it is not because of H-Scenes like most of the ones I play. This one is due to the fact that some of the girl's issues stem from some things that, to be honest, someone under the age of 16 probably shouldn't be playing. I will get more in-depth with that as I do a Review of each girl's path.

Currently, I would say that discretion is advised even for adults for this game as I would compare it somewhat similar to Doki Doki Lit Club (refer to GNKG: Doki Doki Lit Review) in the fact that some of the content is a bit disturbing. Now as I said earlier I have only really completed one full path. Anyone that can't handle some more...mental and psychological problems and actions may not want to play this game.

Otherwise, I highly recommend this game due to its great character development and story arch, its rich story is full of other things then just the bad, so it is still worth it. Plus there is a total of 3 games that you can get in a Bundle.
