The Labyrinth of Grisaia: Amane's Afterstory
The Labyrinth of Grisaia is a small continuation of the original game 'The Fruit of Grisaia'. These are the afterstory's that take place soon after the events of the main game and are meant to be a sort of closure and filler. As I stated in my past reviews of each of these girl's path's they do little to show certain events but instead tell you a short synopsis as to what led to those endings.
Amane's Afterstory starts soon with Amane and Yuuji discussing their plans to get married. Amane being older has already left the dorm for an apartment in the town but she was offered a position as the 'dorm mother' by the Principle due to her worries about Makina. This has allowed Yuuji and Amane to remain together despite her being graduated. At the same time, this is happening Yuuji is studying for exams at his workplace to become a higher rank within the organization. This would allow him to change his status where he would be able to stay home more and earn more money as well.
Amane has done discussed the situation with her mother who has agreed to the marriage but now there is a small problem in the way of Amane's father who seems to disappear whenever Yuuji comes by. At this time as well the other girls are making it known that while they accept that Yuuji has picked Amane to be his girlfriend and soon to be wife, they are still in the habit of making situations that would put a guys simple lust-filled nature to the test. This, in turn, makes Amane quite jealous which is a trait she really never showed much beforehand.
Eventually, after a series of events Amane and Yuuji devise a plan to trick her father into being home so Yuuji can ask for her hand in marriage, (A tradition in most cultures actually but very prominent in the Japanese culture.) Amane's mother helps by sitting up the trap to keep her father in place. With the plan in motion, Yuuji and Amane arrive at her house and enter.
As soon as Amane's father sees Yuuji he realizes he's been sat up by his own family. Yuuji of course is very direct by nature and even more so in this particular matter. Amane's father being an old school traditionalist of sorts decides to test Yuuji the way that it was done in the past in his prefecture, a test of power and might. With that, the fight begins with both sides putting out as much as they get.
After the fight settles a long discussion between them results in Amane's father finally accepting Yuuji and giving him permission to marry her. Not long after these events happen they are married and as more and more of the girls leave the school for their own future there is a sadness that settles in but that is quickly removed after the birth of their child, Yuuki.
The Afterstory ends with what I call a 'hidden message' in the fact that through the story Amane writers letters to a friend that died to protect her back when things got worse after the accident, none other than Yuuji's sister Kasumi. Because there is no address she always expects the letters to return to her and yet none of them ever do. She never really pays it much mind. After the birth of their child, she sends out cards to their friends and family making the announcement of the birth of their child.
In the end, there is a shadow that is cast upon the card that in my own personal opinion looks like the shape of Kasumi. If this is a foreshadowing of the possibility that Kasumi actually lived through the events of the tragedy of the past or not is not for certain. Personally, I believe that Kasumi never died and instead went into hiding, though I also think that if that was true the fact she never showed herself is a bit odd. Without any further evidence though these are all theories.
