Love in the Limelight
Steam Review
This game has what I expect from a VN almost down pat so I can't help but praise it. Nice artwork, nice music though a few more scores would have been nice from time to time, an engaging set of characters even if they were slightly cliche, choices that directly affect the outcome of the game and as always multiple endings which means replay value. I feel that the VN has enough replay value that for the price it is worth it. I do think some of the characters are a bit overly cliche and the development of each character isn't as pushed as it could be but I won't knock it overall for that. There are both "Good" and "Bad" Endings that make decisions you make impact how good or bad things will before you at the end. Overall this VN is well rounded and if the company decided to a second one could easily be made from the finishing content.
Extended Review
Love in the Limelight is a Visual Novel currently being sold on Steam and has a great deal of positive feedback from many of the players that have purchased it. The game centers around a protagonist named 'Josh' that is working at a sizeable company doing a variety of tasks. While there he has taken an interest in an extremely pretty and odd girl named Luna. As the game begins our protagonist Josh asks this woman out and she accepts to his surprise...and thus starts a wild ride of love, hormones, and intrigue into a life that he is no prepared for.
Josh realizes that Luna may work at the office but that her real job is that of a model. She has been a child model and grew up to continue that career and has even started to branch out into acting. Luna may be pretty but she is cold, distant, and very calculated and this causes problems from the beginning.
Luna the 'Girlfriend' is a model that has lived the life of luxury since her childhood and has continued to maintain her business practice and has even started to branch out into acting. She is a very cold and distant girl that keeps people at lengths. She keeps a strict schedule and is calculating when it comes to most things. All that said, however, she does have a spontaneous and wild side that seems to be her balance. She catches Josh off guard many times with her almost 180 like attitude changes.
Pending on your progression in the game there are several endings that involve Luna some are good and some are bad. I won't spoil those for you but just remember this game has around 8 to 10 endings with some being good and some being bad.
Melissa the 'Childhood Friend' has been Josh's friend since elementary school and they have lived close to one another. They were separated for a time when Josh left to pursue college. However, after graduating he returned home and has reconnected with Melissa. Melissa being Josh's best friend offers to help him out when it comes to the relationship he has with Luna.
She helps by having him practice dating and quizzing him on things he should and should not do on dates as well as helps him muddle through the confusing and irritating points of the relationship with Luna.
Melissa is a very shy, meek and timid girl that works at a resort as one of the caretakers. She is one of the wholesome girls and adds a good balance to the VN with the majority of the other girls being way more active and outgoing. She has her own dreams of traveling but has, for the most part, decided that due to her nature she is best suited to remain in the town she grew up in.
Pending on your progression in the game she can become your girlfriend and you can have one of a couple of endings with her...or without her. As I have stated this game has several good endings but also several bad endings.
Celica the 'Friend of a Friend' is a coworker and friend of Luna...if you can all it friends. She is a wild woman that has been an actress for a long time and stars in a movie with Luna and several other girls. She is extremely open and tends to not have a filter when it comes to saying what is on her mind. She takes an instant interest in Josh the moment they meet.
Celica is one of those women that knows what she wants and will do what she wants and can to get exactly what she wants from anyone. She is very open and has a certain amount of disregard towards Luna. This stems from the fact that Luna is coming into the acting scene after being a model and Celica knows how the business works, those like her are seen as replaceable by newer and younger stars.
Her motives for being interested in Josh changes from the first time they meet to the ending of the game. Pending what choices you make you can end up being with Celica and having a lasting relationship with her.
There are two other girls that are possible love interests as well. Their stories are short however and I do not personally see them as primary characters when it comes to the overall feel of the VN. What I will say is that they are both possible endings and one I wouldn't really call good but the other isn't a bad ending.
This game has pretty decent artwork and decent music even if the scores are a bit limited in scope but the team that worked on this did well-putting scores with scenes that tend to make an emotional impact for that scene. The VN is not overly long but does have some good time involved in it. The game was originally called 'My Girlfriend' and was centered more around college life. However due to some strict Steam regulations on the use of 'school' based themes the company made the decision to change the idea to center around working in an office setting. There is still some language in the game that reflects the original idea however as it refers to several things as 'university' or 'class'.
Overall this VN is well crafted, well done, and has replay value which makes it worthwhile. The Steam community is active and there is, of course, an 18+ DLC that shows more sexual oriented and adult content for those willing to pay for the additional content.
